The standard Crosman 760 Pump Master Variable is a good air rifle choice for lot of people. There are a few variants of this air rifle including a couple with a pink stock barrel. Don’t get confused when you see these and be careful when ordering as well.
This is the standard pump air rifle and it is a cheap rifle to buy and a good one for people starting out. I have shown below the main features of this air rifle:
- Has the look and feel of a real rifle but safer for those starting out
- It is a replica pneumatic rifle for small pellets and ball bearings
- Velocity can get up to 600 feet per second
- 3 choices of ammo – 200 shot reservoir, 5-shot pellet clip or 18-shot ball bearing magazine
- Fiber optic sight
This is an oldie but good one and has been around almost as long as me. It was first manufactured as far back as 1966. It has a short stroke action and gives anyone starting out a decent range of options. It is not however suitable for those who take their shooting to any serious level. I call it a fun gun and a great way to get started.
When starting out I used a Daisy pump and my brother used this one. He still says his was the best though I would clearly disagree. Either way, it is a perfect start for those who want to see if air rifle shooting is actually for them. Have a look at the video below for an actual working review of this beginner rifle.
Generally speaking this gets consistently good reviews like this one from LS at Amazon,
If you like a short rifle that’s accurate (Crosman added fiberoptic front sight,) dependable and uses 5 pellet manual clip (you have to slide it manually) this is the rifle. It’s light weight and with 10 pumps can deliver a punch close to 600 fps. I’m a pellet man, but yes it shoots bb’s too. For target shooting, I only use 3 pumps for my 25′ range. I like the fiber optic front sight, but I put a Crosman scope on mine. I strongly recommend buying extra clips if you’re into pellets. A pack of four is around $5/$6.
You will notice that he changed the sight on this one and many people do when they have used this one a few times. I think it is always a good thing to experiment with sights etc and change them around until you find something that you like. With this rifle it is cheap to get started so you should have enough money to try out a few sights and different ammo as well.
